The history of Rolex is inextricably linked with the pioneering spirit of its founder Hans Wilsdorf. In 1905, at the age of 24, Hans Wilsdorf founded a company in London that specialised in the distribution of watches. The hard sandy beach of Daytona-Beach was considered the ideal race track, on which some 80 official records were set between 1903 and 1935. One of the most successful racers was the British world record holder Sir Malcom Campbell. The Daytona legend Campbell was also Rolex’s first motorsport testimonial. That’s how the Rolex Daytona got its name.
